Our Story

Shine and Solemates owners, Erin and Ken, first met working together at a retail store in Boston in 1995. Ken was Erin’s manager and taught her how to properly fold t-shirts (he says her skills still need improvement). In return, Erin taught Ken how to figure out when someone was flirting with him. What neither of their younger selves would have guessed is that they would end up going into business together, and owning their own stores, Shine Boutique and Solemates Shoes. 

Committed to being the source for casual, versatile, well-made clothing in Newburyport, Erin carefully curated brands at Shine that reflect her style and appreciation of sustainability. Ken’s goal at Solemates is to be a source for lifestyle shoes, the kind that complete the outfit, for Newburyport locals and visitors alike.

Most recently, the opportunity arose to combine their stores into one location and it made too much sense to pass up. Shine Boutique, offering on trend yet casual clothing and unique jewelry, now shares its space with Solemates Shoes and its mix of women’s and men’s lifestyle footwear. 

Erin and Ken are so excited to share this full circle moment with the greater Newburyport community.
